A report analysing the relationship between protected areas and socio-economic development in Thailand. Similar reviews have also been conducted for Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The Thailand report identifies key lessons regarding development and conservation, natural resource use and protection, and the planning mechanisms for resource management. Authors also assess key development sectors that depend on environmental goods and services provided by protected areas. The authors identify policy options to enhance the contribution of protected areas to development. The review demonstrates the importance of protected areas as productive assets in the economy, and thus, the need to manage them effectively to maintain their contribution to sustainable development.
